NEW Joint FDI-IADR position statement on fluoride use: FOR DISCUSSION AT OPEN FORUM 3

Further to the Executive Director’s announcement at the FDI General Assembly 2025, and the subsequent discussion during Open Forum 3 (OF3) in Shanghai, FDI and IADR have been developing a joint Position Statement on Fluoride aimed at defending and promoting evidence-based practice and policy on the use of fluoride. We are pleased to share the initial draft ahead of OF3 2026, where it will form the basis for discussion and input.

The draft has been reviewed by FDI’s Council and Standing Committees, and their feedback has been incorporated into the version available here. It has also been shared in parallel with the IADR community for review and feedback.

At this stage, the draft is being shared with FDI members as a basis for debate and input during OF3 on 7 September at the World Dental Congress in Prague. Feedback from the OF3 discussions will help identify any outstanding issues and determine whether further input or consultation with FDI members is required.

Feedback from OF3, together with input received through the IADR consultation process, will inform the final joint Position Statement, which will be included in the General Assembly binder and submitted for a vote in 2027.
