Abstract :

The multidisciplinary management has been developed from the recognition that failures commonly occurred when various aspects of clinical care were not coordinated, or when the relationships among coexisting problems were not noticed, especially for those patients with secondary craniomaxillofacial deformities or defects due to trauma or tumor surgery. The team should meet for regular outpatient joint evaluations, and should consist of an anesthesiologist, a surgeon (plastic and/or oral/maxillofacial), a maxillofacial prosthodontist, an orthodontist, a psychologist, a geneticist, a radiologist, a neurosurgeon, a pediatrician, a speech pathologist, and a nurse and so on. The author emphasizes this multidisciplinary concept with literature review and case presentation.

Learning objectives :

The objectives of this approach are diagnosis, formulation, and execution of treatment plans as well as longitudinal follow-up for patients with craniomaxillofacial deformities and defects.
