Abstract :

How can we predict whether the orthodontic treatment for our patients will be a success, not just for the clinician but for the patient as well? Vital clues are present when we first assess the patient, highlighting the importance of good clinical examination from head to toe. Treatment progress assessments are critical to ensure we obtain the result we plan for, as well as ensuring we avoid orthodontic complications during treatment. Digital innovations available are also able to steer us towards obtaining the desired treatment outcome. Effective communication skills play a large role in ensuring all parties are happy with the final result. Post-treatment retention monitoring is important to ensure lifelong satisfaction.

Learning objectives :

  • Accurate and adequate diagnosis of the patient as a whole
  • Awareness of potential complications leading to treatment failure
  • Correct assessments and interpretations of diagnostic aids in determining outcome success
  • Importance of retention and regular reviews
