SDFDS Annual Meeting 2019 – San Francisco, USA
The Annual Meeting of the SDFDS was held in San Francisco, California USA from 01 to 04 September 2019 prior to the FDI Annual World Dental Congress. A Welcome Reception was held on 01 September 2019 at the Intercontinental Hotel, San Francisco where attendees were welcomed by Chair of the SDFDS Executive Committee, Capt (N) Dr. Helfried Bieber (Germany).
The Scientific Programme was held over two days at the Intercontinental Hotel Ballroom in San Francisco. A total of 30 presentations were delivered across the scope of military dentistry including ‘Dental Sleep Medicine – Increasing Soldier Lethality in the Operational Environment,’ ‘Clinical Considerations of Air Force Pilots in Dental Practice,’ ‘Dental Readiness for the JMSDF Operations,’ ‘Australian Dental Support to Operations – Contemporary Experiences from Afghanistan,’ ‘NATO Regulations and Standards for Deployed Dental Care on Role 1-3’ and ‘Forensic Dentistry – update from Buenos Aires.’
A total of 75 delegates attended from 25 countries. Foreign delegates came from countries such as China, New Zealand, Australia, United Kingdom, South Korea, Japan, Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, India, the Netherlands and Germany. During the Cultural Day, delegates were taken on a tour bus to enjoy the famous sights of San Francisco including the infamous Golden Gate Bridge.
The SDFDS Executive Committee extends their deepest appreciation to all the delegates for attending the meeting and those that had contributed in making the event such a success! The meeting ended with a Closing Ceremony and a reception hosted by the US Federal Dental Services attended by all the US Chief Dental Officers.
