Prof. Dr. Burak Cankaya

Dr. Çankaya graduated from Istanbul University, Faculty of Dentistry in 2000. After graduation, he started to study as a PhD student in Istanbul University, Faculty of Dentistry, Departmant of Maksiloofacial Surgery in same year. After PhD degree in 2006 he received Assoc.Prof.Dr. degree in 2012 and Prof.Dr. in 2021.  Dr. Çankaya has numerous national and international publications and he gave lecture national and international regarding maksillofacial surgery topics. He is interested in pediartic surgery, anesthesiology, maxillofacial traumatology and dental implantology.

Abstract:

Autogenous tooth transplantation or autotransplantation is the alternative treatment to replace missing teeth and dental anomalies when there is a proper donor. Autotransplantation can provide satisfactory solutions for aesthetic, functional and occlusal problems.  The success rate of autotransplantation is influenced by a number of pre-operative and post-operative factors like age of the patient, developmental stage and type of transplanted tooth, proper adaptation between the root surface of the transplanted tooth and the recipient site, atraumatic procedure, postoperative stabilization. Although dental implants have reached a quite acceptable success rates especially in the presence of a wisdom teeth autotransplantation should come to mind as an alternative treatment option.
