Peri-implant Diseases Project

There is a demonstrated need to improve peri-implantitis literacy within the oral health community. Peri-implantitis is the term for inflammatory reactions in the hard and soft tissues, with loss of supporting bone, surrounding a dental implant. FDI developed the Peri-implant Diseases Project (PIDP) to address this knowledge gap.

PIDP addresses common questions posed by oral health practitioners who are not specialized in peri-implantitis.

PIDP is a partnership between FDI and the International Congress of Implantologists (ICOI).

PIDP has constituted four Working Groups that will work together to produce a practical brochure on peri-implant diseases for other oral health professionals.

Next steps

A consensus document on peri-implantitis will be produced during a Working Group meeting in 2018 and the outcomes of the project will be presented during the upcoming World Dental Congress in Buenos Aires and at the ICOI Congress in Las Vegas.
