The International Dental Journal (IDJ) is FDI’s primary scientific publication. Published every two months, IDJ features peer-reviewed articles relevant to oral health worldwide. These focus on international public health, practice-related research, and inter-professional education and practice.
IDJ also publishes concise reviews that synthesize the state of the science on pertinent issues for oral health professionals. Oral health experts are often invited to write these reviews, though recognized experts in relevant fields are welcome to propose their own topics. Concise reviews can be accessed for free.
FDI Policy Statements are published in the February issue and all abstracts from the World Dental Congress are published in a special supplement in the September issue – all of which are also available for free.
In 2016, IDJ’s impact factor was 1.362. The impact factor of a journal is a measure reflecting the yearly average number of citations to recent articles published in that journal.
For context, the 2016 list of journals in the Dentistry, Oral Surgery and Medicine category had the highest impact factor at 4.794 (with 8,242 cites) and the lowest at 0.034 (with 35 cites) – placing IDJ just above average (54/90 journals) with 1,878 cites.
