Passing of Jacques Monnot, FDI Past-President 1999-2001
It is with great sadness that FDI World Dental Federation has learnt of the passing of Jacques Monnot, FDI Past-President 1999-2001, on Sunday 14 June 2015.
A convinced internationalist, Jacques Monnot led FDI into the 21st century and presided over the highly successful 2000 FDI Annual World Dental Congress, held in Paris with over 21,000 delegates from the around the world in attendance. Former French President Jacques Chirac addressed a special message and was guest of honour at the opening ceremony.
Jacques Monnot was also President of the FDI European Regional Organization (ERO) from 1986 to 1992. In his native France, he also chaired the French Dental Association’s Commission of International Affairs for almost 25 years. He was also well known at national and European level for his advocacy work in a variety of key areas in health policy in general and dentistry in particular.
“FDI was founded in Paris in 1900 by a Frenchman, Charles Godon, and Jacques Monnot carried on that proud tradition of internationalism in dentistry,” said FDI President Dr Tin Chun Wong. “I greatly admired his vision and firm leadership during his two years at the helm of FDI.”
“I knew Jacques Monnot personally and worked with him right from the start in my role as a dental professional,” said FDI President-Elect Dr Patrick Hescot. “He was a visionary and a strong advocate of the profession, who passionately believed in maintaining dental health within the scope of general health and continuing dental education in the hands of dentists. He was, in this sense, my mentor.”
FDI conveys its deep sympathy to the family and friends of Jacques Monnot.
