FDI makes statement on the Minamata Convention to the WHO Executive Board

FDI President Dr Tin Chun Wong makes a statement on 'oral health and the Minamata Convention on Mercury' at the 23 January session of World Health Organization Executive Board (Geneva, 20 to 24 January).

FEBRUARY

FDI-Unilever parternship.: launch of Phase III

FDI announces the beginning of Phase III of the FDI-Unilever partnership. It will run for the next three years, building on the strong foundations of Phases I and II.

MARCH

Worlds apart, WOHD 2014 celebrated from Vanuatu to New York City

The Pacific Island state of Vanuatu, population 247,262, joined over 100 countries worldwide to ‘celebrate healthy smiles’ on 20 March, World Oral Health Day 2014. Over 13,500 km away, New York City celebrated with a video outside the NASDAQ stock exchange. On the same day, FDI launches its report 'Oral Health Worldwide' during a London press event and FDI leads World Oral Health Day celebratory events in South East Asia.

APRIL

WHO public consultation on draft guideline on sugar intake

FDI forwards its response to a public consultation, launched by the World Health Organization (WHO) on 5 March, on the new WHO draft guideline on the consumption of free sugars. The following month, WHO Director-General Dr Margaret Chan, alerts the 67th World Health Assembly of “the need to reduce daily sugar consumption, based on evidence of the association with dental caries and obesity.”

FDI mid-year meetings in Mexico City

The 2014 mid-year meetings in Mexico City feature a session of the FDI Council and meetings of the Standing Committee Chairs, as well as a one-day strategic planning workshop, with participation by all.

JUNE

Health professionals need to pay more attention to regulation issues

FDI joins global leaders of the main health professions in urging more attention to regulation issues and ensuring the correct regulation systems to act in the public interest.

JULY

Official: Poznan (Poland) to host the 2016 FDI Annual World Dental Congress

FDI announces that Poznan, Poland, is to host the 2016 FDI Annual World Dental Congress (AWDC) from 7 to 10 September 2016.

AUGUST

FDI report: the Oral Health Atlas Task Team meets to recommend future steps

The Oral Health Atlas Task Team meets in Geneva to lay down specifications for contents and graphic design for the ongoing revision of FDI’s Oral Health Atlas.

SEPTEMBER

FDI launches Data Hub for Global Oral Health

During its highly successful Annual World Dental Congress in New Delhi, India, (nearly 19,500 participants) FDI launches its Data Hub for Global Oral Health and publishes a new brochure 'Dental Restorative Materials and the Minamata Convention on Mercury'. The General Assembly adopts the FDI Strategic Plan 2014-2017, six Policy Statements, welcomes five new members, and elects new councillors and committee members and presents certificates of appreciation to outgoing ones.

OCTOBER

FDI appoints Prof. Ira Lamster as Editor of the International Dental Journal

FDI announces the appointment of Professor Ira B. Lamster as Editor of the International Dental Journal (IDJ), from 1 January 2015.

NOVEMBER

Official launch of World Oral Health Day 2015 campaign

FDI officially launches the World Oral Health Day 2015 ‘Smile for Life’ campaign on 5 November, with a special message from  President Dr Tin Chun Wong. FDI and partner organizations representing the world’s doctors, nurses, pharmacists and physical therapists launch ‘HealthyScore’, an application designed to help individuals in collaboration with their health professionals set targets and track progress towards agreed health goals.

DECEMBER

FDI calls for a tobacco-free New Year and a long-lasting ‘Smile for life’

FDI calls on people to make a healthy New Year’s resolution and reduce their use of tobacco – or give it up completely -  as part of the 2015 World Oral Health Day ‘Smile for life’ campaign.
