FDI enlarges with five new members

FDI has five new members, following the approval of applications by the FDI General Assembly at its first meeting on 9 September 2014, in advance of the Annual World Dental Congress in New Delhi.

They include three Regular Members—the Moldavian Association of Stomatological Societies (MAS), the Palestinian Dental Association (PDA) and the Syndicat tunisien des médecins dentistes de libre pratique (STMDLP)—and two Supporting Members—the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) and the Balkan Stomatological Society (BaSS).

Moldavian Association of Stomatological Societies 
The MAS, a member of the FDI European Regional Organization, was founded in 1998 but its roots go back to 1957 (as the Scientific Association of Dentists of the Moldovan Soviet Socialist Republic). It is based in Chisinau and has 1684 members. Its activities include, among other things, organizing conferences, promoting scientific debate, and maintaining relations with other scientific societies. Its scientific and practical journal Medicina Stomatologica, founded in 2006, is published quarterly. The NLO officer is Oleg Solomon, oleg_solomon@mail.ru

Palestinian Dental Association
The PDA, is a non-profit professional organization that represents dentists in Palestine. It has 2500 members, most of whom live and practice in the West Bank and acts as a union for dentists. The PDA takes part in organizing the profession of dentistry as well as having a prime responsibility in conducting continuous education programmes, hands-on courses, and dental conferences in Palestine. It has three branch societies specialized in Orthodontics, Maxillofascial surgery, and Implantology. PDA membership is compulsory for any dentist wishing to practice dentistry in Palestine. Syndicat tunisien des médecins dentistes de libre pratique
The STMDLP, based in Tunis, has re-joined FDI after a brief hiatus. It has 62 members and membership is open only to dentists in private practice and its purpose is to defend their professional, material, moral, social and scientific interest of dental surgeons, both on an individual and collective basis, manage their trade union, develop aand ensure the individual, social and civil protection of its members and act as an intermediary between its members and public and local authorities. The American Dental Education Association
The ADEA has some 20,000 members. Its mission is to lead individuals and institutions of the dental education community to address contemporary issues influencing education, research and the delivery of oral health care for the health of the public. ADEA’s activities encompass a wide range of research, advocacy, faculty development, meetings and communications like the esteemed Journal of Dental Education, as well as the dental school admissions services ADEA AADSAS, ADEA PASS, ADEA DHCAS and ADEA CAAPID. Balkan Stomatological Society
The BaSS was founded more than 20 years ago and is now based in Thessaloniki, Greece. It has members from 10 Balkan countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cyprus, FYR Macedonia, Greece, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia and Turkey. It promotes friendship, contact, exchange of experience and uniform training and publishes scientific the Balkan Journal of Dental Medicine.
