High mercury levels at some Pakistan dental hospitals, claims study
Indoor levels of mercury at some dental hospitals in Pakistan are between 8 and 20 times higher than the permissible level for human health, according to a study carried out by the Islamabad-based Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI).

A lesson from diet history on chronic oral disease
A recent article in the journal Nature concludes that today’s less diverse oral microbiotic ecosystems “might be contributing to chronic oral (and other) disease in postindustrial lifestyles”. Part of the problem? The relatively recent advent of industrially processed flour and sugar. Says Alan Cooper of the University of Adelaide, quoted in the Financial Times, “The modern mouth basically exists in a permanent disease state.”
