Croatian Dental Society holds celebratory 110th Anniversary Congress

27 January 2014

The Croatian Dental Society (CDS), one of the oldest in world of dentistry, celebrated its 110th anniversary with a special Congress held from 5 to 7 December 2013 under the auspices of Prof. Ivo Josipović, President of the Croatian Republic.

It was well attended, with significant participation from Croatian dentists and delegates representing neighbouring countries. It featured a rich and comprehensive lecture and poster programme, including numerous lecturers from Croatia, invited speakers from Georgia, Israel, Italy, the United Kingdom and the United States, and interventions from Prof. Alex Mersel and Prof. V. Margvelashvili.

During the congress, Prof. Mersel also received a Certificate of Appreciation for his long-standing contribution to the Croatian Dental Society of the Croatian Medical Association. It was awarded within the context of the close collaboration developed over many years between CDS, FDI and the European Regional Organization through the FDI CE Programme for Eastern Europe, of which Prof Mersel is Director.

The CDS’ long history is celebrated in the book ‘The Croatian Dental Society from Austro-Hungarian Monarchy to European Union’, written by CDS President Prof. Vjekoslav Jerolimov and published just in advance of the Congress.
