Data Hub

FDI is building its Data Hub as an easy-to-use, one-stop-shop for global oral health data. The online database, part of the Vision 2020 project, provides FDI members and policy makers with tools to support and promote advocacy for the dental profession. The FDI Data Hub has therefore two aims: on the one hand, to present all available data and, on the other, clearly indicate what data are missing and where. Thus, maps and tables provide a fair visual presentation of collated data, they also visually highlight—and this is their purpose—where the data gaps are in the world.

About the data

The data used herein is publicly available from international sources including the World Health Organization (GHO and Infobase), Niigata UniversityMalmö UniversityWorld Bank and Globocan. Tremendous efforts have been made by many organizations around the world to collect data on oral health. Yet, significant gaps remain due to a lack of regular country-by-country updates – highlighting the crucial need to remedy the dearth of data in the field of oral health and oral diseases.

FDI recognizes the urgency of addressing these limitations and, with this in mind, welcomes the opportunity of collaborating with National Dental Associations and other global health organizations. In many cases, gaps in data might be representative of a given country’s current situation. However, data often exists but has not been shared to be updated. Despite great effort to present the most up-to-date and reliable data sets, inaccuracies in the data may persist.

Please note that for the purpose of data visualization, all maps found on the FDI Data Hub use either data averages or data taken at a specific time, thus simplifying the global picture of oral health. We advise our users to be cautious on deriving conclusions and using the different data representations.

Despite our continuous efforts to keep all data up to date, we would like to highlight that discrepancy between the cancer data presented here and its source (Globocan) might arise due to updates synchronization. Therefore, we encourage Globocan to check for the latest updated cancer data.

If you are using the Globocan cancer data from our website, we would like to request you cite the source as:
