FDI tells WHO that as dentists are among the major prescribers of antibiotics, estimated at between 7–11% of all antibiotic prescriptions they must be involved in antibiotic stewardship activities.

FDI was present at an expert consultation organized by the World Health Organization (WHO) on health workforce education and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) control. The meeting took place 23-24 March at the WHO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

FDI continues to represent the profession at global event on antimicrobial resistance

Attended by Dr Susie Sanderson, FDI was once again the only organization present to represent the oral health profession at a global event to accelerate action on tackling antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Designed as a global call to action to fight AMR, the meeting aimed to build consensus around priority areas, research to address knowledge gaps, and further collaboration across all sectors.

WHO reveals list of antibiotic-resistant bacteria posing the greatest threat to human health

The World Health Organization (WHO) published a list of 12 families of bacteria for which new antibiotics are urgently needed, calling on hospital infection-control experts and pharmaceutical researchers to focus on these “priority pathogens”.
