Call for applications for FDI Smile Award ends 30 November
The deadline to apply for the FDI Smile Award is fast approaching. Applications meeting the award eligibility and category criteria must be submitted by 30 November to be considered for review by the Award Committee.
What is the award?
The FDI Smile Award is part of the Caries Prevention Partnership (CPP) and serves to promote preventive oral care at local level. The award valued at US$4,000 recognizes member National Dental Associations that are making a difference in oral health through innovative and sustainable community outreach projects in their country.
Now in its third edition, the FDI Smile Award is open to any FDI Regular or Associate Member association. It is not designed to reward new projects, but those that have been actively rolled out for at least one year and that will continue for at least another year. Eligible applications are not restricted to caries. They can address other oral health issues and diseases, with a strong focus on oral health education and oral health prevention and promotion.
The award is given in two categories: ‘innovation’ and ‘sustainable community outreach’. Both nominations will occur end of April 2018 and an award ceremony will take place during the General Assembly at the 2018 World Dental Congress in Buenos Aires.
Making prevention a priority
Launched in 2015, CPP is an international effort to help shift the focus of dental practitioners from a restorative approach to preventive dental medicine. It seeks to enhance oral disease prevention through high quality caries educational communication materials and activities that target professionals, patients and the general public. Available resources include a White Paper on Dental Caries Prevention and Management released last year and a Chairside Guide for Dentists published this year.
